What is Glass Tube Rotameter?

It worked on the principle of variable area, where fluid movement lifts a float in a taper tube, thereby expanding the area of fluid passage. The float is raised higher in proportion to flow rate. The combination of the liquid’s buoyancy and velocity head raises the height of the float. Gases have very little buoyancy, hence the float only reacts to changes in velocity head.
Glass Tube Rotameter Operating Principle :
A Variable Area Flow Metre is essentially a Glass Tube Rotameter. The flow rate is proportional to the annulus area, and the differential pressure across the annulus is constant. The Glass Tube Rotameters are constructed from a tapered glass tube that is placed vertically in a frame with the large end facing up and the tiny end facing down. The float in the tube is free to move and rests on the stopper at the bottom of the tube. When a liquid flows, a float rises until the fluid’s upward force balances the weight of the float and the float finds equilibrium. It displays the flow rate in real time at this location. The scale next to it can be used to determine the flow rate.
